About me

My name is Kyle, and Map Depot is the culmination of over 20 years’ experience in cartography and public transport design.

I knew from a young age that I wanted to create maps. As niche as that may sound, I recall segments on Play School and Sesame Street dedicated to maps – and I was fascinated. Growing up in Newcastle, I’d read street directories, transport timetables and other maps out of sheer interest. The timetables led to a wider public transport hobby, particularly of buses, including riding, photographing and studying networks around Australia.

Formal study in graphic design allowed an expansion of my hobby (which at that point, was making maps just for fun!) and I started to formally support local transport planners and operators with mapping in 2006. In 2010, I moved to Canberra to take up a full-time role specialising in all things public transport graphic design. I learnt even more on the job, and Map Depot represents the next step in my cartographic journey!

My very own Mercedes-Benz O305 bus, formerly of Newcastle Buses, which I drive around for fun!
